Whiting & Davis Star Series Charlie Chaplin Mesh Purse

Extremely rare 1976 Collectors Edition Whiting & Davis Star Series Charlie Chaplin Portrait Mesh Purse. Features include painted enamel material in the design on Charlie Chaplin’s profile, ornate silver frame, deco design style bottom, immaculate black lining, twisted fine silver mesh strap. Purse is in MINT condition. Marked “Whiting & Davis Co., Mesh Bag”. The tag on the inside on the black lining has the Whiting & Davis Cartouche with all of the licensing.

In 1976, to celebrate their 100th anniversary, Whiting & Davis produced the Heritage Collection, known as the “Star Series”, these unique bags featured images of legendary actresses and actors. It was rumored that the bulk of the production was recalled and destroyed because of objections and threats of legal actions from the stars’ heirs. Thus, these bags highly sought after by collectors.

This purse was sold by the original owner, who had received it as a gift from her boyfriend when they were young. She put it away in the original box years ago and it was never used. An AMAZING and rare find, collector must have, will increase in value the older it is, especially due to it being in mint condition, great fashion history investment piece.
